The Western Division Two team overcame a challenging match against the Police Mobile Force to secure a 1-0 victory, winning the 2024 Fiji Police Inter-Formation Soccer Competition Trophy. The match concluded yesterday at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.
Throughout the game, neither team managed to score, resulting in a goalless draw until extra time. As the teams intensified their efforts, it became clear that the match could only end with a sudden death finish.
The decisive goal came from Sairusi Nalaubu, who seized an opportunity to drive the ball into the net while defenders were caught off guard, securing the win for the Western Division.
Nalaubu also earned the Golden Boot award for being the tournament’s top scorer.
Post-match, team president ASP Riyaz Mohammed expressed his satisfaction and dedicated the victory to the police officers working in the West. “This is for those hardworking police officers back home who have been sacrificing while we are here playing. Our mission was to bring this trophy to the Western Division,” stated ASP Mohammed.
The Western Division team celebrated with the 2024 Inter Formation Trophy and a $1000 shopping voucher from sponsor Extra Supermarket.
As the tournament concluded, the police team is now setting their sights on the 2024 Sukuna Bowl next month, where they will prepare for their annual competition against the Army in various sports including rugby, soccer, netball, volleyball, and boxing.
Meanwhile, the Police Mobile team received a $500 shopping voucher from Extra Supermarket.
