Weekend Disorder: Town Struggles with Public Drunkenness

The rising prevalence of public drinking in Savusavu is contributing to an increase in disruptive behavior, according to Shankar Singh, chairperson of Savusavu Special Administrators. He expressed concerns that these incidents not only tarnish the community image but also reflect poorly on local police’s effectiveness.

Singh emphasized the need for increased police patrols, particularly on weekends when drunkenness seems to surge, causing safety issues in town. He noted that groups of individuals consuming alcohol in public can create a dangerous atmosphere. Complaints from residents have been escalating as they observe a persistent issue with people drinking heavily at all hours.

In response, Senior Superintendent of Police Kemueli Baledrokadroka reassured the community that the police are actively addressing these concerns. He mentioned that a meeting with the special administrators took place recently to discuss the situation. Additionally, a Viber group has been established for council members to communicate pressing issues efficiently.

It’s hopeful that this collaboration between the police and the local administrators will lead to effective measures that enhance public safety and improve the overall conduct of individuals in the community. With ongoing communication and engagement, there is potential for a more vibrant and secure environment in Savusavu.
