The Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, highlighted that water scarcity is a significant concern for the country, which the Coalition Government is actively working to address. During a parliamentary session, Tuisawau emphasized that the challenges extend beyond infrastructure, involving issues related to climate change and periods of drought.
He outlined that the government has implemented several measures to mitigate these challenges. Among these initiatives are structured water rationing and scheduling programs designed to help communities cope with water shortages.
Additionally, Tuisawau mentioned the government’s free water tank scheme, which has been rolled out to various rural and drought-affected areas, and remains open for residents to access. This scheme aims to assist residents in storing water during shortages. Another temporary solution involves the construction of temporary cofferdams, which is part of the ongoing efforts and long-term strategies being pursued by the government.
