The Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, emphasized the significance of water issues in the country, stating that the Coalition Government is dedicated to fully addressing these challenges. During his address in Parliament, Tuisawau highlighted that these issues extend beyond just infrastructure concerns, also taking into account the impacts of climate change and periods of drought.
To tackle these challenges, the government has implemented several measures. Among these are water rationing and scheduling programs designed to help communities manage their water shortages effectively. Tuisawau mentioned the introduction of structured water rationing and scheduling to support affected areas.
Additionally, the government has launched a free water tank scheme, which has been distributed to various rural and impacted regions, and this initiative remains ongoing. This scheme allows residents to store water during shortages. Tuisawau also noted the construction of temporary cofferdams as another short-term solution, highlighting that these efforts are part of both ongoing work and long-term strategies.
