The Water Authority of Fiji is actively addressing a water supply disruption affecting some customers receiving their water from the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant this weekend. The issue arose on Friday due to heightened turbidity levels in the Waimanu River, a consequence of recent rainfall in the area.
According to officials, the elevated turbidity has led to increased sludge accumulation within the plant, resulting in a malfunction of the gearbox in one of the two clarifiers. This breakdown has consequently delayed the restoration of normal water production and supply to the affected areas.
“Our technical team is working tirelessly to resolve this issue and restore supply as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologize for the disruption, particularly to those who have been without water since yesterday,” said a spokesperson from WAF.
WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg expressed gratitude to the community for their understanding and patience during this time as the team works to rectify the situation.
