Water Woes: Fiji’s Supply Disruption Update

The Water Authority of Fiji is addressing supply disruptions for customers relying on the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant. This issue arose over the weekend due to increased turbidity levels in the Waimanu River, caused by recent rainfall in the area.

The Water Authority reported that the high turbidity led to a significant accumulation of sludge at the plant, resulting in a malfunction of one of the two clarifiers’ gearboxes. This breakdown has hindered efforts to restore normal water production and supply for the affected customers.

“Our technical team is working tirelessly to resolve this issue and restore water supply as swiftly as possible. We apologize sincerely for the inconvenience, particularly for those who have been without water since yesterday,” said a spokesperson.

WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg expressed gratitude to the community for their understanding and patience during this challenging situation.
