Water Woes: Fiji’s Supply Disruption Explained

The Water Authority of Fiji is currently addressing a water supply disruption affecting some customers connected to the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant over the weekend.

Since Friday, the plant has faced increased turbidity levels in the Waimanu River, a result of rainfall in the region that has led to more sediment in the water.

This elevated turbidity has resulted in substantial sludge accumulation within the plant, causing a malfunction in the gearbox of one of the two clarifiers.

As a consequence, the restoration of normal water production and supply to the impacted customers has been delayed.

WAF’s technical team is working tirelessly to resolve the issue and restore water supply as promptly as possible.

WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg expressed gratitude to the community for their understanding and patience during this challenging time.
