Water Woes: Fiji Faces Supply Disruption Due to River Turbidity

The Water Authority of Fiji is actively addressing water supply disruptions affecting customers served by the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant over the weekend. Since Friday, elevated turbidity levels in the Waimanu River, resulting from recent rainfall in the catchment area, have posed issues.

These high turbidity levels led to a buildup of sludge within the plant, impacting the gearbox of one of the two clarifiers. This mechanical failure has hindered the restoration of water production to standard levels and has delayed supply to the impacted customers.

WAF’s technical team is working tirelessly to resolve the problem and restore water supply as swiftly as possible. WAF Chief Operating Officer, Seru Soderberg, expressed gratitude to the community for their patience and understanding during this time.
