Water Woes Close Popular Resorts: A Tourist’s Dilemma

Two tourism establishments have ceased operations due to recent challenges with freshwater supply. Beachcomber Island Resort and Anchorage Beach Resort closed earlier this month following a breakdown at the water plant, according to resort manager Atish Dip. He confirmed that all deposits for guests who had bookings at the two resorts will be fully refunded.

Mr. Dip noted that parts for the water system are being imported to address the issue. However, some sources suggest that the resorts actually closed on October 11.

Marina Toledo, who had planned a stay at one of the resorts, reached out for updates on alternative island accommodations at similar prices after receiving notification about the closure. Instead of receiving information about other options, she was given a timeline for the closure and details on the refund process.

Beachcomber Island Resort, known for its association with the legendary Tui Tai, has seen better days since its time under Costello ownership. Situated near Lautoka, it was once a popular island destination for party enthusiasts. Historically, the original name, Tai, was changed to Beachcomber Island in the 1960s to enhance its appeal to tourists.
