Police are urging parents to educate their children about the dangers and illegality of splashing water on moving vehicles. This appeal follows a series of complaints from motorists since the start of the New Year regarding such incidents.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu emphasized the risks, highlighting a recent video that circulated online, in which a bus driver was targeted. ACP Driu stated, “Such actions can cause accidents which can lead to injuries or death. Please celebrate responsibly and don’t throw water on moving vehicles.”
Children may not fully grasp the serious consequences of their actions, and parents play a crucial role in informing them, according to ACP Driu. He pointed out that those involved in throwing water can face legal action under Section 15 of the Minor Offences Act 1971 or under Section 269 of the Crimes Act 2009 for negligent acts causing harm. He warned that the severity of the offense can escalate to murder if serious injuries occur.
In addition, ACP Driu encouraged community members, including adults, to intervene and speak to children participating in such acts to deter them from continuing. He reassured the public that police will remain vigilant, monitoring incidents to ensure everyone’s safety.
This call to action not only promotes safe behavior, but it also emphasizes the importance of community responsibility in protecting one another, particularly vulnerable road users.
It’s a hopeful reminder that by working together, communities can foster safer environments for everyone, particularly children who may not recognize the consequences of their actions.
