Water Supply Restoration in Fiji: What You Need to Know

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has announced that water restoration efforts are in progress following the successful completion of planned work at Waila, which connected the Viria Water Supply to the Waila Water Treatment Plant system.

In a statement, WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg indicated that as of yesterday, WAF teams were involved in flushing and bleeding the system and had successfully charged the pipeline leading from the Waila Water Treatment Plant to the Wainibuku Reservoir.

Soderberg reported that water flow to the Wainibuku Reservoir was normalized around 3 PM yesterday, with a focus now on refilling the reservoirs to their operational levels. Restoration efforts began at midnight and are expected to achieve 90 percent restoration in affected areas.

He expressed gratitude to the public for their understanding and patience, particularly in following advice to store water during the disruption.

Additionally, Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, visited the work site and commended the teams for their efforts. He noted that the work is crucial and took approximately 20 hours to enhance resilience, redundancy, and reliability within the Suva-Nausori Water Distribution Network. Water carting trucks are prepared to assist as necessary.
