The Permanent Secretary for Education, Selina Kuruleca, has announced that water supplies in northern schools are adequate to last until the upcoming school break. Kuruleca noted that water services are being provided to schools that have expressed water shortages, specifically mentioning schools in Namuka and Dogotuki.
A taskforce led by Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima is currently addressing this situation, and Kuruleca reported that the latest meeting on Monday confirmed that everything is under control. The Commissioner North’s Office is in communication with the National Disaster Management Office in case water needs to be transported to maritime areas.
She emphasized that there have been no significant complaints or urgent requests from schools regarding water shortages. In the Vunika area, where water cuts are occurring, there are five schools, but Kuruleca assured that their water tanks are sufficient to meet their needs. The situation is being monitored closely in collaboration with school heads and the drought taskforce team.
The end of the second term school break is scheduled to begin this Friday.
