The Water Authority of Fiji is actively addressing the water supply disruptions experienced by customers relying on the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant over the weekend.

Since Friday, the plant has been managing increased turbidity levels in the Waimanu River, attributed to recent rainfall in the catchment area.

The elevated turbidity has led to a significant buildup of sludge within the plant, resulting in a malfunction of one of the two clarifiers’ gearboxes.

This equipment failure has hindered the restoration of normal water production levels, affecting the supply to impacted areas.

The technical team at WAF is working tirelessly to resolve the issue and restore water supply as quickly as possible.

WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg expressed gratitude to the community for their ongoing understanding and patience during this challenging time.
