The Water Authority of Fiji is actively addressing a water supply disruption that has affected some customers served by the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant this weekend.
On Friday, the plant encountered elevated turbidity levels in the Waimanu River due to rainfall in the surrounding catchment area. The Water Authority reported that this increased turbidity led to a significant build-up of sludge within the plant, which subsequently damaged the gearbox of one of the two clarifiers.
As a result of this malfunction, the restoration of regular water production and supply to the impacted areas has been delayed.
“Our technical team is working around the clock to resolve this issue and restore supply as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologize for the disruption, particularly for those who have been without water since yesterday,” stated a representative from the Water Authority.
WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg expressed gratitude to the community for their continued understanding and patience during this challenging situation.
