Water Supply Disruption: What’s Causing the Delay?

The Water Authority of Fiji is addressing a water supply disruption affecting customers who receive water from the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant this weekend. The issue began on Friday when increased turbidity levels in the Waimanu River resulted from rainfall in the catchment area.

The elevated turbidity led to a significant accumulation of sludge in the plant, which subsequently damaged the gearbox of one of the two clarifiers. This malfunction has hindered the restoration of normal water production levels, impacting the supply to affected customers.

WAF’s technical team is working tirelessly to resolve the situation and restore water supply as swiftly as possible. WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg expressed gratitude to the community for their continued understanding and patience during this time.
