Water Supply Disruption: Fiji’s Turbidity Challenge

The Water Authority of Fiji is actively addressing a disruption in water supply affecting certain customers who rely on the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant. Since Friday, the plant has encountered higher than normal turbidity levels in the Waimanu River, a situation exacerbated by recent rainfall in the area.

The increased turbidity has led to higher sludge accumulation within the plant, resulting in a malfunction of the gearbox in one of the two clarifiers. This failure has further delayed the restoration of normal water production and supply to the impacted areas.

The technical team at WAF is working continuously to resolve these issues and restore services as swiftly as possible. WAF Chief Operating Officer, Seru Soderberg, expressed gratitude to the community for their understanding and patience during this challenging time.
