Water Supply Disruption: Fiji’s Authority Faces Challenges After Heavy Rain

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is addressing a water supply disruption affecting customers served by the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant this weekend. The plant faced increased turbidity levels in the Waimanu River due to recent rainfall in the area.

WAF reported that the elevated turbidity resulted in significant sludge accumulation at the plant, leading to a malfunction in one of the two clarifiers’ gearboxes. This breakdown has hindered efforts to restore normal water production and supply to the impacted customers.

“Our technical team is working around the clock to resolve this issue and restore service as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologize for the disruption, particularly for those who have been without water since yesterday,” WAF stated.

Seru Soderberg, the Chief Operating Officer of WAF, expressed gratitude to the community for their understanding and patience during this challenging period.
