The Water Authority of Fiji has announced that water restoration efforts are in progress following the successful completion of planned works at Waila, which involved connecting the Viria Water Supply to the Waila Water Treatment Plant system.
In a recent statement, WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg reported that as of yesterday, WAF teams had begun flushing and bleeding the system, successfully charging the pipeline running from the Waila Water Treatment Plant to the Wainibuku Reservoir.
Soderberg indicated that water flow to the Wainibuku Reservoir resumed around 3 PM yesterday, and efforts will now shift towards refilling reservoirs to their operational levels. He noted that restoration work aimed at normalizing supply began at midnight and is expected to achieve 90 percent restoration in affected areas.
He expressed gratitude to the community for their understanding and patience, particularly for following the advice to store water over the weekend.
Additionally, the Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, visited the site and recognized the work of the teams involved. He highlighted the significance of these efforts, which took about 20 hours to enhance resilience, redundancy, and reliability in the Suva-Nausori Water Distribution Network. Water carting trucks are also prepared to assist as needed.
