Water leakages in the Suva to Sawani corridor are projected to decrease by 20 percent over the next five years. Minister for Public Works and Infrastructure Ro Filipe Tuisawau announced that this decrease is part of the larger Princes Rd water infrastructure project, which aims to significantly lower the current leakage rate of 47 percent.
During his address in Parliament this week, Ro Filipe emphasized that the project would implement performance-based contracts focused on enhancing hydrolytic systems and utilizing advanced leakage detection techniques. He noted that the Princes Rd project is a crucial element of the strategy designed to optimize water distribution and infrastructure.
Furthermore, the ongoing Viria Project is tackling water supply deficiencies and has already demonstrated significant improvements. In the meantime, water tank assistance has been offered to areas facing irregular water supply, such as Sakoca. Ro Filipe explained that applications for these water tanks are prioritized based on need.
He provided an example regarding the Viria initiative, mentioning an agreement with landowners to extend the pipelines. These extensions will serve the villages of Viria, Waitolu, Naqali, Navatuvula, and Naqali government stations, along with all household communities in the Sawani area.
Residents are encouraged to apply for water meters and connections as the pipeline extensions are rolled out, with Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) scheduling visits to various communities to facilitate this process.
