Water Disruptions Ahead: What Fijians Must Know

The Water Authority of Fiji has announced that essential connection works will lead to water disruptions for residents along the Suva-Nausori corridor starting at midnight tonight and lasting until Sunday.

In a statement, Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg explained that the scheduled shutdown is necessary to carry out vital work on the pipeline connecting the Waitolu Reservoir to the Waila Water Treatment Plant, which in turn supplies water to the Wainibuku Reservoir.

The shutdown of the pipelines will begin around midnight tonight to allow for dewatering before the work commences the following day. Soderberg noted that the terrain where the work will take place poses challenges.

He added that an ongoing assessment of the site has identified additional risks that must be addressed prior to starting any work to ensure the safety of the workers. Failure to mitigate these risks could potentially delay the project.

Fijians are being urged to prepare by storing sufficient water to last through the planned disruption.
