Two tourism properties have recently shut down due to ongoing challenges with their freshwater supply. Beachcomber Island Resort and Anchorage Beach Resort ceased operations earlier this month after experiencing a breakdown at their water plant, according to Atish Dip, the resort manager. He confirmed that all deposits from guests who had reservations at the affected resorts will be refunded.
“Parts are being imported,” Mr. Dip stated regarding the necessary repairs. However, some insiders claim the resorts actually closed on October 11.
One affected guest, Marina Toledo, had booked a stay at one of the resorts. After receiving a notification about the closure, she inquired about alternative accommodations with similar pricing on the island. Instead, she was provided with information about the closure dates and the process for obtaining a refund.
Beachcomber Island Resort, known for being the home of the legendary Tui Tai, was once a vibrant destination under the Costello ownership. Situated off the coast of Lautoka, the island has historically attracted partygoers. Notably, the island’s original name, Tai, was changed to Beachcomber Island in the 1960s to enhance its appeal to tourists.
