Water Crisis Forces Closure of Popular Island Resorts

Two resorts in the region have closed due to challenges with fresh water supply. Beachcomber Island Resort and Anchorage Beach Resort ceased operations earlier this month after their water plant malfunctioned, as reported by resort manager Atish Dip. He assured that all deposits from guests who had booked stays at the resorts will be refunded.

“Parts are being imported,” Mr. Dip noted. However, there are conflicting reports regarding the closure date, with some sources stating the resort closed on October 11.

In the meantime, Marina Toledo, who had booked a stay at one of the resorts, sought updates on alternative island accommodations with similar pricing after she was informed of the closure. Instead, she received a timeline for the closure and details regarding the refund process.

Beachcomber Island Resort, once renowned for its vibrant atmosphere and famous Tui Tai, has fallen from its former status under previous ownership. It is situated off the coast of Lautoka and was a popular destination for partygoers. According to online sources, the island’s original name, Tai, was changed to Beachcomber Island in the 1960s to attract more tourists.
