Water Crisis Forces Closure of Iconic Island Resorts

Two tourism properties have closed due to ongoing challenges with fresh water supply. Beachcomber Island Resort and Anchorage Beach Resort shut down earlier this month after a water plant malfunction, according to resort manager Atish Dip. He confirmed that all deposits for guests booked at both resorts will be refunded. “Parts are being imported,” Mr. Dip stated. However, some sources claim that the resorts actually closed on October 11.

Marina Toledo, who had a reservation at one of the resorts, sought updates on alternative accommodations after receiving notification about the closure. Instead, she was provided with a timeline for the closures and information on how to process her refund.

Beachcomber Island Resort, known for its legendary Tui Tai, has seen better days since its ownership under the Costello family. The resort, located off the coast of Lautoka, was once a popular destination for partygoers. The island’s original name, Tai, was changed to Beachcomber Island in the 1960s to make it more appealing to tourists, according to information from an online encyclopedia.
