Visitors to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) are encouraged to bring their own drinking water due to an ongoing water shortage affecting parts of the facility. The Ministry of Health reported that the hospital is currently reliant on its emergency water reserves to supply both patients and staff.
The shortage is attributed to low water pressure from the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF). This pressure issue has stemmed from high turbidity levels in the feed water intake, which is impacting the overall flow of water.
To mitigate the situation, the Ministry has indicated that bottled drinking water is being provided to individuals in the affected areas of the hospital. Additionally, efforts are underway to coordinate with WAF to arrange for water trucks to replenish the hospital’s backup tank.
While this situation is challenging, the proactive measures being taken by the hospital staff and the Ministry of Health reflect their commitment to ensuring the well-being of patients and visitors. This response might also serve as a reminder of the importance of preparedness in public health infrastructure during emergencies.
Overall, the community can take heart in the collaborative efforts between the hospital and government agencies to resolve the water supply issue swiftly and effectively.
