Christopher Wasasala, the decisive penalty taker for Labasa in the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC), expressed his confidence in scoring during the final against Navua. The 29-year-old military personnel revealed that he didn’t anticipate the match would end in penalties; however, when it became clear it would, he volunteered to take the final kick.

After missing a penalty in the semifinal, Wasasala was determined to rectify the situation and silence his critics in the final. “I kept telling the boys that I will take the last kick because I was oozing with confidence and knew I would get the job done and win the title for Labasa,” he stated.

When it was time for the decisive penalty, he quickly offered a prayer for guidance before taking his shot. The moment the ball hit the net was unforgettable, marking a magical highlight in his career with the Labasa team.

Wasasala also confirmed his commitment to continue with the Babasiga Lions in the upcoming season, aiming to guide and mentor emerging strikers within the team. Looking ahead, he plans to focus on the Sukuna Bowl challenge next month in Suva, where he will represent the RFMF soccer team against the Fiji Police Force.
