Labasa’s Christopher Wasasala, who secured the decisive penalty in the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC) final against Navua, expressed his confidence ahead of the crucial moment. The 29-year-old military personnel admitted he did not anticipate that the match would be decided by penalties, but once it was clear it would go to a shootout, he volunteered to take the final kick.
“I missed a penalty in the semifinal, so I was determined to make it right and silence any critics in the final,” he remarked with a smile. Wasasala reassured his teammates that he was ready to take the last kick, fueled by his confidence that he could lead Labasa to victory.
Before taking his shot, he offered a quick prayer for guidance, which he said helped him during the tense moment. “When the ball found the net, it felt surreal—a magical moment that I will forever cherish in my career with Labasa,” he added.
Wasasala plans to remain with the Babasiga Lions for the upcoming season, aiming to mentor younger strikers on the team. He is now setting his sights on the Sukuna Bowl challenge next month in Suva, where he will compete for the RFMF soccer team against the Fiji Police Force.
