Labasa midfielder Christopher Wasasala has been celebrated as a hero by fans after his team clinched victory in the inter-district championship last Saturday. Wasasala’s decisive kick helped the Babasiga Lions secure a win over Navua, finishing the match 5-3 in a penalty shootout at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
As the team paraded through town, supporters cheered Wasasala’s name. He expressed his determination for the Babasiga Lions to triumph, particularly as they prepared for the penalty shootout. “I told the boys that we will win the championship; I was 110 percent confident that I would deliver a win for Labasa,” he stated.
Wasasala highlighted the significance of the fans’ presence as a source of motivation. “I would like to thank them for coming out in numbers to support the boys; they have given us a great celebration,” he said. He also mentioned that achievements like this inspire the players to excel in future, larger tournaments.
“This victory last Saturday was memorable; we dedicate it to our supporters and families,” Wasasala concluded.
