Wasasala’s Bold Move: From Missed Penalty to Championship Hero!

Christopher Wasasala, the winning penalty taker for Labasa in the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC), expressed his confidence ahead of the final against Navua. The 29-year-old military personnel revealed to FijiLive that he did not anticipate the match would be decided by penalties. When the situation arose, he volunteered to take the final kick.

“After missing a penalty in the semifinal, I was determined to make it right in the final and silence my critics,” he said with a smile. Wasasala shared that he continually reassured his teammates of his readiness to take the crucial kick, emphasizing his confidence in securing the win for Labasa.

When the moment came, he took a brief moment to pray and seek guidance before proceeding with the kick. “What occurred after the ball hit the net was indescribable, a magical moment that stands out as one of the highlights of my career with Labasa,” he added.

Wasasala confirmed his commitment to remain with the Babasiga Lions in the upcoming season, with the aim of mentoring and guiding younger strikers within the team. He is now gearing up for the Sukuna Bowl challenge next month in Suva, where he will represent the RFMF soccer team against the Fiji Police Force.
