Wallaroos Dominate Wales in WXV 2 Showdown

The Wallaroos delivered a powerful message to their WXV 2 rivals with a decisive 37-5 win over Wales. The Australians showcased their strength, particularly in the second half, where Maya Stewart scored twice, including a potential try-of-the-year contender in the closing moments, marking their best second half under new coach Jo Yapp.

The first half was competitive, with both teams maintaining high intensity from their previous encounters. Wales initially threatened to score but struggled against a resilient Australian defense. The Wallaroos then had a try by Tania Naden nullified by the referee for not using the ball in time. Eventually, Australia’s scoring began in the 21st minute, thanks to Maya Stewart, who earned a penalty by breaking through defenders. A quick tap from Layne Morgan caught Wales off guard, allowing her to score.

Wales quickly answered back, employing their effective rolling maul, with Carys Phillips scoring. However, a crucial defensive play by Georgina Friedrichs prevented further scoring just before halftime. This motivated the Australians, and Eva Karpani scored a spectacular solo try to give them a 10-5 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Wallaroos maintained pressure, but it took a penalty from Faitala Moleka, who stepped in for the injured Arabella McKenzie, to extend their lead. The dynamic duo of Friedrichs and Stewart opened the game further as Stewart added her fourth try in three matches. Moleka followed up with a try after a well-executed team play, bringing the score to 29-5.

As the match neared its end, a combination of Miller and Cramer effectively sealed the victory. Stewart’s stunning second try capped the match; receiving the ball from Moleka, she showcased her speed and strength to outmaneuver defenders, securing the win for the Wallaroos.
