Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communications Manoa Kamikamica is set to present his Ministerial Statement concerning the technical and financial investigation into Walesi in Parliament later today.

In a previous conversation with FijiLive, Kamikamica mentioned that the report, which was conducted by the Office of the Auditor-General, is intended to be submitted to the Cabinet for evaluation before its presentation in Parliament. The Auditor-General’s findings were made public last month.

Depending on the results of the investigation, the Deputy Prime Minister indicated that the findings could potentially be referred to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption. Since 2015, the country has invested a substantial $125.6 million in the development and implementation of the satellite digital television platform.

This Ministerial Statement is a crucial step in increasing transparency and accountability within the government, fostering trust among the public regarding the financial management of public utilities. As new developments unfold, they may pave the way for enhanced governance practices in Fijian media infrastructure.

In summary, the Deputy Prime Minister will deliver a statement today regarding the findings of the Walesi investigation, which will inform future actions, including potential involvement of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption. This dialogue is essential for ensuring accountability in government spending and may lead to improvements in Fiji’s media landscape.
