Waila Water Works Completed: What’s Next for Suva-Nausori?

The connection of Viria Water Supply to the Waila Water Treatment Plant has been completed successfully.

Minister for Public Works and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, visited the site and praised the teams involved in the project. He highlighted that this initiative was crucial and required approximately 20 hours of effort to enhance the resilience, redundancy, and reliability of the Suva-Nausori Water Distribution Network.

According to WAF Chief Operating Officer, Seru Soderberg, as of October 5, the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) teams began flushing and bleeding the newly charged pipeline from the Waila Water Treatment Plant to the Wainibuku Reservoir. Soderberg indicated that water flow should have normalized to the Wainibuku Reservoir by around 3 PM that day, as efforts shifted to refilling the reservoirs to their operational levels.

He also mentioned that restoration works to normalize water supply have started, with a target of achieving 90% restoration in the affected areas. Water carting trucks are on standby to assist when necessary.
