The Water Authority of Fiji has announced that efforts to restore water supply are in progress following the successful completion of planned works at Waila to connect the Viria Water Supply to the Waila Water Treatment Plant system.
WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg stated that as of yesterday, teams were actively flushing and bleeding the system while charging the pipeline from the Waila Water Treatment Plant to the Wainibuku Reservoir. Water flow to the Wainibuku Reservoir returned to normal around 3 PM, and the focus has now shifted to refilling the reservoirs to their operational levels.
Soderberg mentioned that restoration efforts commenced from midnight and the goal is to achieve a 90 percent restoration in affected areas. He expressed appreciation to the public for their patience and cooperation, particularly for heeding advice on storing water over the weekend.
Additionally, the Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, inspected the work site and praised the teams for their efforts. He highlighted that this crucial work took approximately 20 hours to enhance resilience, redundancy, and reliability in the Suva-Nausori Water Distribution Network. Water carting trucks are also on standby to provide assistance as needed.
