WAF Executes Major Water Supply Restoration in Fiji

The Water Authority of Fiji has announced that restoration efforts are currently in progress following the successful completion of planned water works at Waila, which involved connecting the Viria Water Supply to the Waila Water Treatment Plant system.

In a recent statement, WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg reported that as of yesterday, WAF teams were engaged in flushing and bleeding operations and had charged the pipeline linking the Waila Water Treatment Plant to the Wainibuku Reservoir.

Soderberg indicated that water flow to the Wainibuku Reservoir began to normalize around 3 PM yesterday, and the focus will now shift to refilling reservoirs to their operational levels.

He noted that restoration efforts to restore normal supply started just after midnight and are expected to achieve approximately 90 percent restoration in the affected areas. Soderberg expressed gratitude towards the community for their understanding and patience, as well as their cooperation in storing water over the weekend.

Additionally, Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau visited the work site and commended the teams involved in the project. He emphasized the importance of these works, which took approximately 20 hours to enhance the resilience, redundancy, and reliability of the Suva-Nausori Water Distribution Network. Water carting trucks are also on standby to provide assistance as necessary.
