AJ Pallets Ba River, the reigning under-21 champions from Votua village in Ba, showcased their prowess on the first day of competition, reaffirming their status as the team to beat. They commenced their tournament with a convincing 12-0 win over Midland and followed it up with an impressive 31-5 triumph against Namara, clearly establishing their championship ambitions.
Coach Mikaele Nawaikada expressed pride in his team’s performance but acknowledged the challenges of defending a title. “Although we had a slow start, I’m pleased that the boys rallied well. It’s challenging when you’re the target, but they worked diligently and adhered to the game plan,” he remarked.
Recognizing the pressure to maintain their title, Nawaikada emphasized the importance of staying focused. “Every team aims to defeat us, so we need to be more vigilant in the upcoming matches. We’re taking it one game at a time, but the boys are eager to keep this trophy.”
In addition to their on-field achievements, the team has garnered praise for their discipline and cooperation, qualities that Nawaikada believes will be instrumental as they face tougher challenges in the future. “Success hinges on preparation and mindset. We have a long journey ahead, but if the boys continue to perform like this, we’re on the right track,” he added.
The upcoming pool match will be critical as they aim to secure their place in the knockout rounds and continue their quest to defend their championship title.
