AJ Pallets Ba River, the reigning under-21 champions from Votua village in Ba, demonstrated their prowess and resolve on the opening day of the tournament, reaffirming their status as the team to beat. They commenced their title defense with a convincing 12-0 victory against Midland, followed by an impressive 31-5 triumph over Namara, firmly establishing their intentions.

Coach Mikaele Nawaikada expressed pride in his team’s performance but acknowledged the challenges that come with defending a championship. “Although we started slowly, I’m pleased that the boys performed well. It’s not easy when you have a target on your back, but they worked hard and adhered to the game plan,” he said.

As they aim to keep their title, Nawaikada stressed the need for the team to remain vigilant. “Every team is aiming to defeat us, so we need to be sharper in the upcoming matches. We’re focusing on one game at a time, but the boys are eager to keep this trophy.”

In addition to their impressive field performance, the team has received accolades for their discipline and teamwork—qualities that Nawaikada believes will help them navigate the tougher challenges that lie ahead. “Preparation and mindset are key. We have a long way to go, but if the boys continue to play like this, we’re in a strong position,” he remarked.

The next pool match will be significant as AJ Pallets Ba River seeks to solidify their place in the knockout stages and continue their quest to retain the championship.
