AJ Pallets Ba River, the reigning under-21 champions from Votua village in Ba, demonstrated their prowess on the first day of competition, affirming their status as the team to beat. They began their tournament with a convincing 12-0 triumph over Midland and then followed it with a commanding 31-5 victory against Namara, clearly signaling their intentions.
Coach Mikaele Nawaikada expressed pride in his team’s performance while acknowledging the challenges that accompany title defense. “Despite a slow start, I’m pleased that the boys executed well. It’s challenging to carry the target on your back, but they worked hard and adhered to our strategy,” he stated.
With their championship title at stake, Nawaikada stressed that the team cannot become complacent. “Every opponent aims to bring us down, so we must remain sharper in upcoming matches. We’re focusing on one game at a time, but the boys are eager to keep this trophy,” he remarked.
In addition to their impressive gameplay, the team has received accolades for their discipline and teamwork—qualities that Nawaikada believes will be essential for facing more formidable opponents in the future. “Preparation and the right mindset are crucial. We still have a long road ahead, but if the boys maintain this level of play, we are positioned well,” he noted.
The next pool match will be significant as they strive to secure a place in the knockout rounds and continue their quest to defend their championship title.
