The Hanua Two team is participating in the 2024-2025 Suva Volleyball Pre-Knockout Tournament with the goal of engaging young people in volleyball and steering them away from criminal activities.
In their latest match at the National Netball Centre in Suva, the team achieved a victory over Tamavua Bulls Two, winning two sets in a row.
Composed of Rotuman youths from the Raiwai community, the team is led by standout player Shane Kitione, who also formed the team. Kitione emphasized that the primary aim is to motivate young players to step outside their comfort zones and participate in larger competitions for broader recognition.
“We need to encourage them to explore new experiences, as they have primarily played in their suburbs and have not been involved in bigger tournaments for exposure,” he stated.
Kitione believes that engaging in the sport can create an environment where players are shielded from illicit substances and alcohol.
“While all teams aim to win, our goal transcends winning the tournament; we aim to win our youth back from drugs and alcohol,” he stressed.
In conclusion, Kitione urged supporters to enhance their spiritual understanding by embracing faith.
“Knowing the Lord Jesus is better than anything else in the world,” he added.
The competition will carry on next weekend.
