Vodafone Fiji has reported that a recent power outage affected the connectivity of POS terminals used by top-up agents, resulting in significant disruption yesterday afternoon. The outage left many commuters stranded at the Suva Bus Stand, as they were unable to top up their e-transport cards. As a result, long queues formed at a small Vodafone booth in the vicinity, further complicating the situation when the booth unexpectedly closed without warning.
Fortunately, Vodafone Fiji managed to resolve the issue later in the evening and has since restored service. In response to this incident, the company has implemented offline top-up capabilities through EFTPOS terminals, enabling card top-ups even without an internet connection. This feature is aimed at preventing similar issues in the future and ensuring that customers have alternative means to access their accounts.
Vodafone Fiji is also launching a comprehensive communication and training program for its top-up agents to familiarize them with the new offline top-up process. Moreover, the company is planning to introduce innovative features such as QR Pay for bus payments and a mobile app that allows users to top up their e-transport cards via their smartphones. These enhancements will provide customers with more convenient options, ensuring that they can travel even without the physical card in hand.
The proactive measures taken by Vodafone Fiji reflect their commitment to improving customer experience and enhancing service reliability, even in challenging situations. By implementing these changes, the company is not only addressing current concerns but also preparing for a more customer-centric future.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of robust infrastructure in telecommunications, and it’s encouraging to see Vodafone Fiji taking steps to ensure such disruptions are minimized moving forward.
