The Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North, held last month, successfully raised $327,000 over its week-long duration. Festival committee president Zaheen Ibrahim shared this achievement during a thanksgiving event in Labasa on Saturday, highlighting that seven months of meticulous planning contributed to the event’s success.
The festival took place at Subrail Park in Labasa from August 31 to September 7. Ibrahim, who made history as the first female president of the festival committee, emphasized the vital connections formed with volunteers and supporters that led to the event’s triumph. She expressed gratitude for the hard work, resilience, and dedication of the committee members, stating that they overcame various challenges throughout the preparation process.
Recognition was given to committee members with special plaques and certificates, as Ms. Ibrahim acknowledged the significant contributions of major sponsors, including Vodafone Fiji, as well as other corporate entities that provided crucial financial backing.
Looking ahead, Ibrahim expressed hope for continued sponsorship in the future. Nilesh Singh, Vodafone’s head of recharge and operations, who was the chief guest, assured that they would maintain their partnership, stressing the importance of community engagement.
During the festival, the committee raised the standard of performances by choosing quality contestants who showcased their talents throughout the week. Additionally, the involvement of contestants’ families in encouraging their performances was noted.
The festival’s charity initiatives have begun to yield results, with completed projects including the construction of washroom facilities at Subrail Park and the donation of musical equipment to Nabala Secondary School. Further projects are expected to commence soon.
