The Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North, which took place last month, raised an impressive total of $327,000. Festival committee president Zaheen Ibrahim announced this record achievement during a thanksgiving program held on Saturday in Labasa. The event unfolded at Subrail Park from August 31 to September 7 and involved seven months of planning that paid off well for the organizers, volunteers, and sponsors.
Ms. Ibrahim, who made history as the festival committee’s first female president, emphasized the importance of the relationships built with volunteers and supporters, which contributed to the event’s success. “It is a time to appreciate the hard work, resilience, and dedication of our committee members,” she noted, acknowledging their efforts in overcoming challenges during the preparation phase.
During the ceremony, special plaques and certificates were awarded to committee members. Ms. Ibrahim expressed gratitude towards the major sponsors, including Vodafone Fiji, and other corporate entities that offered financial support for the festival’s operations, stating, “Without our sponsors, this festival would not have been successful.”
She expressed hope for continued sponsorships in the future. Nilesh Singh, Vodafone’s head of recharge and operations and the chief guest at the event, assured that the company would maintain its partnership, highlighting the significance of community outreach.
Ms. Ibrahim also recognized the high standard of performance at the festival, commending the quality contestants who showcased their talents throughout the week. She made a special mention of the families of the contestants for their motivational support, which helped them excel beyond their comfort zones.
Among the completed projects funded by the festival’s charity efforts is the construction of a washroom facility at Subrail Park ground two. Additionally, musical equipment was donated to Nabala Secondary School, with more projects set to begin soon.
