Visa Woes Keep Flying Fijians Star Semi Radradra in Limbo

Semi Radradra, the star player for the Flying Fijians, is currently stranded in Fiji and may miss the beginning of the 2024/25 French Top 14 season with his new team, Lyon, due to visa complications concerning his son.

The 32-year-old, originally from Somosomo in Taveuni, had returned to Fiji following a match against the All Blacks on July 20 in San Diego. Although he expected to travel back to France without a visa for his son, he faced boarding issues that prevented their departure, leaving him unable to return to France just 11 days ahead of his club’s opening match.

Reports indicate that Radradra’s son, who is under a year old and was born in France, is listed on Radradra’s passport, leading to the misconception that a separate visa was unnecessary. However, when attempting to board the flight back to France, authorities denied the son boarding due to the visa issue.

An urgent visa application has been submitted and is currently being processed through Singapore. However, it could take up to ten days to complete. According to reports, Radradra is expected to return to France by Friday at the earliest, but he should arrive before the Top 14 season kicks off. Updates regarding his physical condition will be provided upon his return.

Lyon is set to begin their season with an away game against Montpellier on September 7.
