The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has announced that a 55-year-old man faces charges for an act intended to cause grievous harm to his 5-year-old stepdaughter. The man reportedly injured the child by striking her back with a cane knife.
This incident is part of the ODPP’s Serious Crime (Non-Sexual Violence Offences) Statistics for August 2024, which indicate that 18 individuals were charged with a total of 28 non-sexual violence offences during the month. The report noted that there were 14 victims across these offences, with six incidents involving accused individuals who were related to their victims.
Additionally, a 48-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his 76-year-old father, who allegedly suffered multiple stab wounds inflicted by his son, leading to his death.
A 33-year-old man has also been charged with an act intended to cause grievous harm to his 34-year-old de facto partner, reportedly injuring her with a spade. He faces further charges of breaching a Domestic Violence Restraining Order and a suspended sentence.
Another case involves a 34-year-old man charged with an act intended to cause grievous harm and attempted arson after he allegedly attacked his 39-year-old brother with a spade and attempted to set fire to his brother’s home.
In a separate incident, a 25-year-old man has been charged with an act intended to cause grievous harm to a 48-year-old man, allegedly assaulting the victim through punching and kicking during a disagreement.
Authorities have also charged a 44-year-old man with assault causing actual bodily harm to his de facto partner, alongside charges of aggravated burglary and criminal intimidation. The charges stem from incidents involving theft and robbery from houses, shops, and street muggings.
Furthermore, four men—ages 24, 34, 20, and 19—face a joint charge of aggravated robbery after allegedly stealing a mobile phone from a 14-year-old boy.
In drug-related incidents, a 31-year-old man has been charged with unlawful cultivation and possession of illicit drugs after allegedly growing 94 cannabis sativa plants and possessing over 3 kilograms of the substance. Additionally, a 30-year-old man was charged with unlawfully cultivating 347 cannabis sativa plants.
