A house in Naseakula Village, Labasa, was the target of an invasion by a group of men last Friday. The assailants reportedly demanded money and threatened to sexually assault a woman if their demands were not fulfilled. Police have confirmed the occurrence of this alleged incident.
Ratu Jone Qomate, the Tui Labasa, stated that the intruders were from outside the village, marking the first such incident in the area. In response to this alarming event, the villagers have initiated the establishment of a neighborhood watch zone.
“We will question any outsider seen in the village about their purpose for being here,” Ratu Jone noted. “If they are unable to provide a legitimate reason, they will be instructed to leave.” Additionally, random checks will be performed throughout the village.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kemueli Baledrokadroka, Divisional Police Commander North, confirmed that a report regarding the incident has been filed at the Labasa Police Station. “The Criminal Investigations Department is currently managing the case,” SSP Baledrokadroka stated.
