A 45-year-old man, who was found guilty of raping his 20-year-old employee, is set to receive his sentence today. The man, who is married and has two children aged 20 and 21, operates an electrical contracting business primarily from his car, as he does not maintain an office.
According to court records, the incident took place on December 2, 2022, when the accused contacted the complainant and asked her to bring tools to a specific location. Upon her arrival, he was consuming alcohol and encouraged her to drink two cans of beer. During the encounter, he locked the doors and assaulted her.
Following the incident, the complainant was able to use her phone to call her mother. In a remarkable act of bravery, she managed to escape from the moving vehicle and sought assistance from a passing taxi that took her to the nearest police post.
Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull, who presided over the case, praised the complainant’s candidness, stating, “The complainant struck me as a truthful witness.” The judge expressed confidence that the accused was aware of her lack of consent when she pleaded for him to stop. Justice Bull categorically dismissed the man’s denial of the charges.
This case highlights the importance of believing and supporting survivors of sexual assault. It serves as a reminder of the resilience of victims, as well as the judicial system’s role in holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. As the sentencing unfolds, there is hope that justice will be served, and that it may encourage others facing similar circumstances to come forward and seek help.
