Verata House has emerged as the champion of the 31st Druavesi Golf Tournament, which concluded yesterday at the Fiji Golf Club. This tournament, featuring a four-man Ambrose format, saw Verata House achieve an impressive net score of 132, narrowly beating the defending champions, Rewa House, who finished in second place, while Bau House took third.
The tournament attracted a robust participation of 13 teams, with eight teams hailing from Queen Victoria School Old Boys (QVSOB) and five teams from alumni associations of Marist Old Boys, Grammar Old Scholars, and Labasa College Old Scholars. Teams from QVSOB competed for the prestigious Druavesi Trophy, while other alumni groups vied for the Druavesi Cup in the School of Origin Competition.
The event was well-attended, with numerous alumni present to support their teams, which contributed to a spirited atmosphere filled with camaraderie and encouragement. Ratu Isoa Gavidi, the captain of the victorious Verata House, expressed pride in their accomplishment, emphasizing that the victory reflects the resilience, teamwork, and dedication of the entire team. He noted that the support from alumni played a critical role in their success, stating, “The spirit of Druavesi is alive and well, and we are honored to bring the trophy home this year.”
Looking forward, organizers are already planning for the 2025 tournament and are optimistic about attracting more young alumni to engage in the sport and uphold the traditions surrounding the event. The Druavesi Golf Tournament remains a key highlight on the Old Boys’ calendar, uniting participants from diverse backgrounds to celebrate sportsmanship, fellowship, and the lasting bonds of school pride.
This year’s tournament not only showcased sporting skill but also reinforced the values of community and tradition essential to these alumni gatherings. As the event continues to grow, it holds great promise for fostering connections among generations of alumni while inspiring younger participants to engage in golf and its associated camaraderie.
