Venice Traill: Fijian Tae Kwon Do Star Shifts from Athlete to Coach

Team Fiji taekwondo athlete Venice Traill made history as she concluded her journey in the Paris Olympic Games. After her match on Saturday, she revealed that this would be her first and last appearance in the Olympics.

The 27-year-old lost to Rebecca McGowan from Great Britain, who is currently ranked third in the world, with McGowan winning the match 2-0. Traill announced that this competition signifies the end of her playing career as she shifts her focus towards coaching and nurturing young athletes in their Olympic aspirations.

Excited about her future in coaching and sports management, Traill intends to return to Fiji and actively engage in existing programs designed to empower young athletes aiming for Olympic success. She plans to share her insights and experiences to help guide aspiring competitors in reaching their fullest potential.

“I am looking towards coaching and managing the sport of taekwondo when I go home,” Traill stated. “There are programs in place where I can fulfill this. I’m so excited to go back and share whatever I’ve learned.”

In recognition of her dedication, Traill has been selected as Fiji’s flag bearer, alongside swimmer David Tolu Young, for the upcoming closing ceremony.
