The President of Vanuatu, His Excellency Moli Nikenike Vurobaravu Moliunavanua, has officially declared a State of Emergency in response to the devastating effects of the earthquake that struck on December 17, 2024. The President’s declaration covers the regions most severely impacted by the disaster.
This action is taken in accordance with presidential powers conferred by subsection 32 (1) of the Disaster Risk Management Act No. 23 of 2019. The State of Emergency will remain in effect for a period of seven days from the date of the declaration.
