The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has reported incidents of vandalism and theft shortly after completing the $62.944 million Queen Elizabeth Drive Road Project in Suva. During a recent inspection, the FRA found that several street lights had been damaged and essential garden light cables were reportedly stolen.
FRA chairperson Atunaisa Nayago expressed that these acts pose significant risks to public safety. He noted that the vandalism and theft are not only against the law but also create dangerous conditions for both motorists and pedestrians, potentially leading to accidents and injuries.
“The FRA emphasizes that such unlawful actions may lead to legal consequences for those responsible,” Nayago stated. He also urged the public to take pride in their community and respect public property.
Nayago pointed out that the damage to street lights and the theft of cables undermine community safety and hinder efforts to maintain a secure and adequately lit environment. He called on the community to help protect the new infrastructure across the country.
“We must work together to ensure our roads remain safe and functional,” he said. “Protecting public property is a collective responsibility that affects the well-being of all.”
