Value City Pte Ltd, a well-known clothing retailer, launched its children’s cancer fundraiser in Suva yesterday, uniting staff, friends, and corporate partners to support WOWS Kids Fiji. Vera Chute, the managing director, emphasized that this annual event is a vital component of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which involve employees from their 16 branches nationwide.
Chute noted that Value City has been engaged in cancer awareness initiatives since the inception of Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea. However, after a two-year hiatus during the COVID pandemic, the company decided to annually support WOWS Kids Fiji, especially after experiencing the loss of a child of one of their contracted staff in October 2020.
Last year, the company successfully raised $53,000 and continues to pledge to match the funds collected by its branches during September, which is designated as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Following the opening event yesterday, more than $8,000 was gathered by staff and invited guests.
