Value City Pte Ltd, a well-known clothing retailer, launched its children’s cancer fundraiser in Suva yesterday, gathering staff, friends, and corporate partners to support WOWS Kids Fiji. The managing director, Vera Chute, emphasized that this annual event is a key aspect of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR), with participation from all 16 branches nationwide.
Chute noted that the company has been active in cancer awareness initiatives since the inception of Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea. After a two-year hiatus due to COVID, they decided to annually support WOWS Kids Fiji, especially after experiencing the loss of a child from their contracted staff in October 2020.
Last year, the company successfully raised $53,000 for the cause. In September, which is recognized as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Value City matches the total amount raised by its branches. At the conclusion of the opening event yesterday, over $8,000 was collected from staff and invited guests.
